I would love to see Future Boy Conan licenced - it's Miyazaki, so people are bound to buy it. And where the heck are the first and third Lupin III series? They should be brought over too!

I would also love to get at least the first season of Kaikan Phrase on DVD too, but that won't be licenced because of the music...

I don't think either will win. It's like Iomega Zip drives.
When they came out, floppy disks where starting to become to small in capacity to be usefull, and CD burners were still too expensive. So the 100mb Zip disk seemed very usefull, and for a time they were popular.

But then the price of CD burners dropped, and the software that went with them became easier to use. Combined with the "Click Of Death" fiasco, that pretty much killed the Zip drive.

I think the same thing is going to happen with HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Sure, they have a larger capacity than current DVDs, but you need to buy expensive hardware to use them. And they are still discs. They are scratchable and need to be kept in big cases.

Meanwhile, SD cards (and similar type memory cards) are nearly indistructable, and they are coompatible with current tecchnology like computers, cellphones, cameras, printers etc...

And even though Memory cards currently don't hold hold very much data, the capacity is being boosted very rapidly - and that causes the price to go down on the cheaper ones.

Memory Cards for the win...

Gunslinger Girls is good. There are some great scenes here and there, though I doubt it's going to be anyone's favorite anime. The manga is OK too, but I don't know if ADV is ever going to get around to finishing it...

f

I don't get all the fuss about Hughes. I've been reading the manga, and he's hardly in it. When he dies, it makes sense, because he was about to reveil some secret regarding the military. It wasn't gratuitoous at all.

f

Yoko Kanno and Susumu Hirasawa are really the only two that stand out for me. They both do excellent work.

f

Rouroni Kenshin is called Samurai X in some anime because different companies have the licences for the TV and the OVA - they both can't use the name Kenshin for legal reasons.

Same thing for Lupin IIi/Rupin/Clifhanger/Wolf.

Laputa is just Castle in the Sky in Northa America too, because there are a lot of Spanish speaking people here.

The first english versions of Naussica and Wings Of Honnemese both were badly edited, and so had different names and such.

And who can forget Robotech - three different anime hacked up and turned into one show. ...

f

Anime like Inuyasha and FMA have open endings because the people who make them know that there there is going to be movies and games made afterwards. They don't want to make a final ending because that would make it difficult to make the movies etc...

f

You can't say Trigun is "more action than Sci-fi" because the show is always Sci-Fi, weither it's a action scene, a comedy scene, or a drama scene.

f

All Shishio has to do is dress up like Enishi's sister, and then that four eyed pansy wouldn't attack. Also, since Shishio has probably taken over hell by the time Enishi shows up, he'd probably have demons etc.. to help him.

f

She should be with Tamahome, beccause they both suck. Fushigi was good DESPITE them, not because of them...

f

It's an Okay show, but definatley not the best. I wonder how popular it will be when Hip Hop is no longer as popular as it is today.

I have only a couple of soundtracks for Ghost In Shell TV, the Akira one and A Cowboy Bebop boxset bootleg (the real thing is too expensive, sorry).

Right now I'm having trouble finding the first few Wolf's Rain DVD's. I saw the last discs used for a good price, so I bought them Iand thought I could just go buy the rest at full price - Nope! I found #4 and bought that, and I've had the first 3 on order ofr ages. I did see 2 & 3 at another store but the price was ridiculous - and I still would have to wait for #1.

I'm also having problems finding individual volumes of Heat Guy J - again I found the first DVD, with the art box and bonus disc, for only $9.99. I have yet to see any other disc anywhere. The full box sets exist, but always at a high price. I'm not paying that much for a B level series...

THis thread is still here? Sheesh.

There's nothing anywhere in the movies or the TV show to suggest that Motoko is/was anything other than female.

In the first manga she ends up with a male body, but that's only because that was all Batou could find (and he though it was female!). In the second manga she uses female bodies almost exclusively, and the rare ocassions she does use a male, it's goot a female body inside controling it.

She's female, get over it.

f

Quote by TaurecI hoped it was another series or the animefication of Man Machine Interface.
Oh well more Motoko screentime is always a good thing.. <grin>

I doubt the'll do Man Machine Interface, at least with the current SAC staff/setup. In SAC Motoko already uses multiple bodies, and to set up MMI, they'd have to do the Puppet Master story, which isn't a Stand Alone Complex.

I love all different types of tea. I also like tea mixed with juice, but not milk.

f

I don't feel sad about finishing an anime. Sometimes I wish there were more episodes, because watching the same ones over and over can get boring.

f

I like spoilers for tv series, because then I know weither they are worth buying or not. There's no point in buying 6+ DVDs, just to get to the last one and find out the end was terrible. I would rather watch a bad series with a good ending, than a good series with a terrible ending.

f

No, Japanese animation is not dominating US animation, at least in North America. Most animated shows on North American TV are North American creations. Even on Cartoon Network, most shows are American. And shows like Simpsons and South Park are way more popular (at least in North America) than any anime, in large part because they are shown on regular networks, rather than special cable channels.

Stuff from Disney, Dreamworks, etc. does count because anime is still rare in movie theaters, and anime films are rarely shown on tv.

Also, anime is influenced by american animation and comics. Osamu Tezuka, father of manga and anime, was very influenced by Walt Disney films. Even today, you can see things like South Park in FLCL or the influence of things like Spawn in Kenshin & Trigun.

f

The graphics in Akira where ahead of their time for the 80's, and even as late as 1999 it still looked better than many TV shows. But compared to other anime movies, yes it's becoming dated now. All those beautiful cityscapes have been eclipsed by CGI stuff. But it's still a great movie, and I still think it's Katsuhiro Otomo's best work.

f

I think Kenshin loves both women equally, but I think in the end he would chose Kaoru.

Even though she changed her mind in the end, Tomoe really only went with Kenshin to betray him to his enemies. And, she has a crazy little brother, who may not have understood her change of heart even if she had live to tell him about it.

Kaoru is not only more lively than Tomoe, she is also more loyal to Kenshin. She took in Kenshin when he was a wanderer and has stood by him ever since. Also, Kenshin's friends are all friends of Kaoru. They wouldn't force him to chose Kaoru, but most certainly would prefer it.

f

I don't rely soley on reviews, because almost every anime will have a fanboy who raves about it. I think it's best to actually just watch it before buying it. Even just watching the first few episodes is not enough, because what if the ending sucks or the show get repetative?

f

I have been watching anime since the mid-1980's, and I still like it. I see no good reason that would make anybody stop watching anime.

No time because of work or school? All you need is 1/2 hour a day! When I was in school I used to go home and watch an anime episode at lunch. Nowadays I watch an episode while eating breakfast before work. Even if you have exams, you can't study 24 hours a day. So you might as well pause for 30 minutes, eat and de-stress with a quick episode.

No money? Well that doesn't mean you stop liking anime, it just means that you can't buy as much. But if you save up and shop smart, then you can still afford to get a DVD once in a while. You can always rent it to, or "borrow" it from your friends on the internet...

Getting old? That's the worst excuse of all. There are lots of anime that are meant for adults, and there are lots of anime that are better appreciated when you are an adult. My Neighbors the Yamadas is boring when you are a kid because it's slow and has very dry comedy. But when you get older you start to relate to it more and you can enjoy it even though it lacks fighters or magical girls.

f

Have I ever stopped watching an an anime series? Yes, several, because they either sucked or weren't my style.

Will I even stop watching anime? No. I may stop seeing new ones, but I will still watch the ones I love.
